Getting That Glow
Chances are if you are getting married you want to look the best you have ever looked! After all, those photos will last a lifetime. Here are some simple tips to help you get that bridal glow. Remember, if you do struggle from acne, discoloration, or any other skin issues, it’s always wise to seek the help of a dermatologist who can help you clear up those issues in a safe and effective way.
1. Stay Hydrated!
Make sure you’re drinking water throughout the day. Water helps move everything through your system and keeps skin looking plump. Also, often when you’re craving sugar, feel hungry, or feel fatigued, you may just be dehydrated! If plain water isn’t your thing, try adding a squeeze of lemon or keeping a pitcher of water in your fridge with slices of strawberries and oranges to add some flavor. One of my favorite things to do is to bring a water bottle with me wherever I go so that I get my water in for the day. I find that drinking through a straw also helps for some reason, but if you find that it makes you gassy or bloated (from breathing in excess air) definitely skip that tip. And last but not least, make sure your pee isn’t dark yellow (unless you took vitamins, they can change the color of your urine).
2. Eat a healthy diet.
Your skin is often a reflection of things going on on the inside (inflammation, etc.), so make sure to eat a diet that is healthy FOR YOU. If you notice that dairy makes you break out or that gluten messes with your eczema, make sure to cut it out. If it doesn’t effect you at all, then keep doing what you’re doing! Sugar can mess with your skin as can fatty fried foods, so just be aware of how your body is reacting. Vibrant foods equal vibrant skin, not to mention you need good, healthy sources of energy to get all of that planning done. You don’t want to have an energy crash on your wedding day! Repeat after me: caffeine and sugar are NOT the answer. *One exception is your cake tasting. Eat the damn cake.
3. Exfoliate.
I can always tell when I haven’t properly exfoliated my skin in a while! My texture seems to be more prominent. There are many ways to exfoliate skin from using a product like a Clarisonic to products like glycolic serums and procedures you can get done in a spa, like microdermabrasion. While you can gently exfoliate frequently (I use my Clarisonic every night), make sure to not use anything harsh too often, which can further irritate your skin. When in doubt, always reach out to a professional and make sure to try new procedures and products far in advance of your wedding day. You don’t want any surprises.
4. Nail down your skincare routine.
Speaking of skincare, if you don’t already have one, make sure to start a skincare routine. Again, do not try anything really close to the wedding date. Not only do you want any weird reactions, but you also want to have enough time for the products to actually work! Some trial and error is always involved in this process. Make sure the products you choose are a good fit for your skin type and skincare needs. If you tend to be on the drier side, one of my favorite products is the Belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask.
5. Sleep!
Sleep is super important when you want to look bright eyed and bushy tailed for your big day. Make sure to limit your use of blue light devices (or get some glasses that filter it) before bed, as this can affect your quality of sleep. Everyone hates looking tired and puffy and having dark circles, so make sure to get some shut eye. If you do wake up puffy, using a cold jade roller can help you de-puff. Remember, being sleep deprived can also lead to poor food choices and sugar cravings, so if you’re trying to slim down for the big day, it’s best to get to bed on time.
Now while all of these tips are helpful, there is ONE thing that will give you a great glow, and that is being happy! A smile can go a long way, so make sure to enjoy every second. If you guys want a post with some of my favorite skincare products, let me know!
