5 Tips for Choosing Your First Dance Song

5 Tips for Choosing Your First Dance Song

Ah, the first dance. That magical moment when you stare into your partner’s eyes lovingly as all of your family watches you (wow that sounds very awkward…)

While some couples can pick out a first dance song right away, for others it can be a bit of a struggle. Here are my top tips for picking out a first dance song.

  1. Think back to memories of you and your person.

Do any specific songs stand out? Maybe it was the song you slow danced to at prom if you’re high school sweethearts, the song that played in the bar during your first date, or one from a concert you went to together.

  2. Keep it in the family.

If you don’t really have any specific songs that jump out right away, maybe pick the song your grandparents (or maybe your favorite aunt or even parents) danced to at their wedding as a way to honor them.

  3. Pick according to the words.

Another option is choosing a song based on the lyrics. (I mean you should always pay attention to them…Sometimes people don’t and it can get weird. Example: “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. Love it but it’s obvious if you know the words that her mans left her.) Anyway, maybe pick something that has lyrics that describe how you feel about each other.

  4. When in doubt, pick something classic.

You can never go wrong if you pick something classic! Think “The Way You Look Tonight” or “Unchained Melody.”

  5. Check out both the Classic and Modern First Dance playlists on the LuxeBrideGuide Spotify.

A little inspo can go a long way in helping you plan your wedding!
